Aligned or Misaligned

My day job for the next few weeks is doing a lot of the “blunt” end of HR – casework, namely disciplinary, grievance, all that good stuff. 🤣

This week we had a big team meeting (there’s 24 of us) and training session, and all of us had completed a personality psychometric test.

Something that struck me comparing my personality test to the role I’m doing, is that the qualities most people who do this type of job possess.

Caution, observing before making a decision, measured, reserved – if you know me, I’m sure you know this is the opposite of me 🤣 and my test results showed that!

I’m a – take charge, get things done, jump in and take the risk, logical and practical but also radical and spontaneous. The opposite of the cautious, measured way in which casework often needs to be handled.

But I’ve learned to take a cautious and measured approach, because my career in HR required it.

The big realisation I had this week, was that because this is not my natural state, this job is very tiring for me. I am frequently needing to operate in a way that’s not natural to me, which is exhausting.

In other words, I’m not in alignment with who I really am, in this type of role.

It’s temporary though, so I’m focussing on using the real “me” wherever I can and making sure I get plenty of rest in too!

What about you?

Have you ever found yourself utterly exhausted by what you do for work, a relationship, or something else in your life?

It applies mostly to work, in my experience, but if you’re misaligned with what your natural needs, desires, and personality traits – you’re much more likely to feel tired, out of sorts, or even unwell.

It comes back to what I talk about in my masterclass on time and headspace – my belief that burnout often stems from a lack of alignment with your purpose, doing something that doesn’t answer that call you have within you.

Of course, we all have to do things we might be good at sometimes, rather than what we truly desire – that’s life.

But think about how you feel when you’re doing something you truly love – you are smiling, you have butterflies, you have boundless energy. I know when I started working on this business concept I could work on it 24/7 and I wouldn’t feel tired – just excited!!

So what is it, that thing that makes you feel that way? Do you do it for a job or business now? Are you working towards it? Or is it still at the dream stage?

I’d love to know! Get in touch or catch me on Instagram to tell me all about it…
