Misalignment Burnout

I recently needed a time out to reassess, regroup, and rest.

So many women I speak to are feeling the same – like they’ve been in a period of shutting themselves away and reevaluating.

Have you felt it too?

One of the biggest shifts I’m noticing is women realigning with what they truly want from life.

Many of us seem to be dealing with what is being coined misalignment burnout.

It’s basically when your values and purpose in life don’t align with the role, career or business you currently have.

I’ve spoken about it before in my burnout content, but it’s my strong belief that often one of the main reasons we burn out is because we’re not doing something we truly love, or which is our “calling” in life…

Think about how you feel when you’re doing something you love and are passionate about. Your energy is high – it sometimes feels limitless! You could work and work and not feel tired, you talk about it endlessly and passionately, and your whole body is tingling with excitement and happiness.

You feel aligned. Like you are right where you are meant to be.

Conversely, think of things you find difficult. Your energy is low, you struggle to concentrate, it feels heavy. Working on it long term wears you out. And eventually – yep – misalignment burnout.

It impacts your mental and physical health. It impacts your friendships and relationships. And of course, your work!

So, what can you do to change it?

Many of us feel stuck, as if we can’t possibly make changes.

One reason for that, is that we want to make changes overnight.

We want to get from where we are now, to fulfilment and happiness – like *that* (clicks fingers).

But we know it doesn’t work like that. It takes hard work, and a lot of hurdles.

So often, we stay put.

But is the pain of getting to where you want to be, REALLY less than the pain of getting where you want to be?

Think about that for a minute…. you can be in pain moving forward, to where you want to be, or in the pain you’re currently in, staying where you don’t want to be. I know which I would rather!

If you’re stuck in misalignment, here are some tips:

  1. Start to create little pockets of time for the things you do love. Often misalignment burnout (or burnout in general) is compounded because the negative thoughts and feelings take over, and we aren’t doing enough to balance them out. It isn’t easy to move when you’re exhausted and burned out, but filling your cup with the things that make you happy can help you rebalance. Slowly, but surely.
  2. Give yourself time and space to think about what you really want. One of the reasons people often stay stuck where they are is because they don’t know where they want to be. Giving yourself time and space allows thoughts and ideas to drop in much more easily, and over time you’ll start to build up a picture of what you want. Journalling and coaching can speed up this process – look out for my journalling prompts next week to help you with this.
  3. Rest! When we are struggling in this way we need even more rest than usual. You are not lazy, and there are many more things in your life that can be left than you realise… give yourself a break.
  4. Find someone to talk to. Whether it’s a therapist, coach, bestie or partner – vocalising how you’re feeling can often help you to get unstuck – and move forward.

Lately, I’ve been helping some wonderful women get unstuck. Sarah wanted a new business and to create a new project. Luise wanted to change careers. Hannah wasn’t sure which direction to take.

Each of them signed up to my Get Realigned coaching package (scroll down to find it), and now they’re all moving forward with renewed energy and excitement for the future. This package has up to 100 minutes of coaching, so it’s great value too.

If you’re interested but need a payment plan, get in touch and we can work something out.
